Join our new hand woodworking heritage craft course to discover the fundamentals of basic hand tool carpentry, perfect for beginners and those looking to refresh their skills. Under the guidance of a skilled professional, you'll learn about hand tool selection, usage, and practical skills involving traditional hand tools and techniques. The course will also cover design, planning, marking out, transferring your ideas to wood, how to use and maintain the tools, as well as the completion of at least one project from concept to finish.

What Will I Learn On This Course?
Learners will:
1. Be able to select the appropriate wood for their project
2. Create a design plan using accurate measurement for at least one project.
3. Accurately transfer designs to wood to create a project which features at least two methods for joining wood

Is This Course Suitable For Me?
This course in an excellent starting point for beginners who want to explore carpentry skills or for those with a little experience who want to revisit skills.
The course will cover:
? Workshop health and safety
? Wood selection including the use of reclaimed timber
? Design and planning a project
? Accurate setting out using a combination square
? Use of different types of saws for making accurate cuts in wood
? Use of planes and spokeshaves to reduce wood to the required size
? Removal of waste wood with chisels
? How to use dowels and make simple wood joints
? How to take wood grain direction into consideration when creating a project in wood.
? Development of an understanding of the importance of having sharp tools and how to sharpen tools
? How to select the best wood finish
? How to create an effective woodworking tool set including the selection of traditional vintage tools.
? The completion of at least one project from concept to finish.

Please be aware that whilst this course is practical in nature some sessions will include theory and professional related training such as H&S, risk assessments, public liability etc
Learners will need the following tools and equipment please do not purchase until you are sure the course will run:

You will be provided with a sketchbook

What Is The Attendance Policy?
Multiple sessions-
To get the most out of your course you will need to attend as many sessions as possible. We recommend at least 90%. If you do have a holiday booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes. If you are unavoidably ill or unable to attend, please contact 01634 338400 so that we can let your tutor know, and so they can send you any work you may have missed
