Description
The Level 2 Certificate in Working with Children in Early Years and Primary Settings provides an introduction at Level 2 for learners into both early years and primary settings. This qualification supports learners as they develop their knowledge, understanding and skills when caring for and supporting the learning and development of children aged 0–11 years 11 months.
The qualification is made up of portfolio of evidence (6 units) and a Professional Skills Record. This qualification does not qualify learners to work and count in the ratios at Level 2 in early years settings but supports learners to progress onto Level 3 qualifications across a number of sectors, such as Early Years Education, Supporting Teaching and Learning, and Children and Young People.
What will I learn on this course?
The qualification is made up of a portfolio of evidence (6 units) and a Professional Skills Record. The mandatory units are:
Unit 1 Child development from birth to 11 years 11 months
Unit 2 Play and learning
Unit 3 Exploring legislation
Unit 4 The role of the childcare practitioner
Unit 5 Nutrition
Unit 6 Physical development and physical activity
Is this course suitable for me?
You will need to undertake a minimum requirement of 120 work placement hours (about one day a week) in both an early years and a primary school setting, which may happen concurrently or consecutively. It is learners’ responsibility to obtain and maintain their placement. The minimum placement hours are essential for learners to achieve on their course. There will be set tasks to complete in each setting, and staff can allocate the number of hours in each setting at their own discretion. Work placement achievement will be graded Achieved or Not Yet Achieved. Learners will be visited and observed in their placement by their tutor/assessor.
Learners will need to obtain a Disclosure and Barring Service check. Learners should speak to their placement providers to arrange this.
Is there anything I need to know about this course?
You will build a ‘Portfolio of Evidence’, proof of what you can do as a Nursery Worker in the setting. The evidence may come in a variety of assessment methods such as Observation, Assignments, Professional Discussion, Personal Accounts or Statements, Witness Testimonies and Knowledge Questions.
Direct Observations will take place at the setting, during your working hours, observed by your appointed Tutor/Assessor.
You will also need to complete Assignments which contribute to your underpinning knowledge and fill in some of the evidence ‘gaps’.
You will be assessed throughout the course for each unit by your tutor/assessor.
For quality assurance your portfolio will be sampled by an appointed Internal Verifier during the course and a final verification at the end.
If all of your evidence meets the required NCFE Cache Outcomes and Criteria, Medway Adult Education will then apply for your Accredited Certificate of Achievement.
Will there be any additional costs?
You may wish to purchase a recommended textbook (approximately £35) but this is not mandatory. Learners will be advised of this by the course tutor/assessor and should not buy anything in advance of starting the course.
What could I go on to do after this course?
