Description

DIY based career, MAE Community Learning courses can provide you with a stepping stone to progress.

Join us for this friendly course to learn some basics of home plumbing and DIY. Amongst other things, we will look at the various types of taps and solve some of the more common problems that can occur.

Gain the confidence to tackle some basic home-plumbing issues yourself and identify which tools you will need to have in your tool-kit (before making unnecessary purchases)

Fix a dripping tap. Washers or cartridges - what's the difference?

Understand how to replace the various types of taps when beyond repair, (Basin, bath, garden, kitchen sink etc)

Have a better understanding of how to deal with simple plumbing problems around the home with this new DIY course.

  

WHAT WILL I LEARN ON THIS COURSE?
Learners will: -Discover the various methods of isolating a water supply before commencing work -Fix a dripping tap -Replace a faulty tap

IS THIS COURSE SUITABLE FOR ME?
This course in an excellent starting point for beginners who want to explore basic plumbing DIY skills

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS COURSE?
Please bring your own apron/overall (if required) and pen and notebook. You will need to follow the rules of the work studio to maintain Heath & Safety procedures and keep yourself and others safe.

WILL THERE BE ADDITIONAL COSTS?
You will need your own basic tools; your tutor will offer advice during the first session and explain which tools you will require (if any) for the following weeks. On week 1, you may wish to bring a few hand-tools that you already own (if any) and wait until after your first session to decide if anything else is necessary.

Medway Adult Education works with many partners locally such as Mid Kent College and the University of Kent; information about their courses can be found in our studios, café and on Moodle. Your tutor will be able to talk through with you individual progression options. WHAT IS THE ATTENDANCE POLICY
In order to get the most out of your course you will need to attend as many sessions as possible. We recommend at least 90%. If you do have a holiday booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes. If you are unavoidably ill or unable to attend, please contact 01634 338400 so that we can let your tutor know, and so they can send you any work you may have missed

HOW ARE IT/DIGITAL SKILLS USED AND ENHANCED ON THIS COURSE?
Learners can also do their own research using the internet / google to explore plumbing outside of class time.
