Description
This course is designed to help learners develop essential English skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening. It provides a supportive pathway towards Functional Skills English Level 1, focusing on practical communication for everyday life, work and further learning.
What will I learn on this course?
• reading for meaning understanding short texts, signs and instructions
• writing clearly: using correct spelling, punctuation and grammar
• speaking and listening taking part in discussions, expressing ideas, and listening actively
• building vocabulary for everyday situations
• planning and structuring short pieces of writing
• using English confidentially in real- life contexts such as forms, emails and conversations
Is this course suitable for me?
You need to be 19 years and over and have no GCSE 4/C or equivalent qualifications in English.
Before you begin your studies, an initial assessment will take place in order to help us to place you on the most suitable course.

Attendance Policy
In order to get the most out of your course, you will need to attend as many sessions as possible. We recommend at least 90%. If you do have a holiday booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes. If you are unavoidably ill or unable to attend, please contact 01634 338400 so that we can let your tutor know and so they can send you any work you may have missed
