Description

This course is at the Gillingham centre.
Please note: You will need to phone 01634 338400 to book an initial assessment before enrolling. Online enrolment is not available for this course.

What will I learn on this course?
• To plan and deliver a structured presentation, using accurate grammar and pronunciation. • To take an effective part in a topical discussion, supporting your arguments with evidence and responding appropriately to the views of other speakers. • To listen for and identify main points and significant details from authentic recorded material. • To sustain conversations on a wide range of topics, using a wide range of English, including idioms. • To demonstrate understanding of natural intonation, stress patterns and pronunciation.

Is this course suitable for me?
This course is for learners who have achieved or have been assessed at ESOL Level 1 and/or are working towards Level 2. If you attend well, and pass all your level 2 exams, you can enrol onto any course which requires a level 2 in English. You will need to phone 01634 338400 to book an initial assessment before enrolling.

Is there anything I need to know about the course?
• You must practise outside the class extensively to develop your skills. • You will need to spend at least two hours a week on homework. • It is essential to your success that you attend all lessons. • Your teacher will give you constructive and regular feedback to support your learning.

Will there be additional costs?
This course is free if you meet the funding criteria, i.e you are on a recognised benefit or earning less that £25,000 per annum. You will be required to pay if you do not meet the funding criteria. You must bring to class: • A ring binder folder • An A5 notebook to write in • A pen and pencil. • Some learners may have to pay for the ESOL exams.

What could I go on to do after this course?
From the start of the course, you will work towards targets and have regular assessments and reviews of learning. This is a qualification course, and you will prepare to sit a speaking and listening exam at Level 2. On passing Level 2, if you wish to study further, you can apply for any course that requires Level 2 language skills. Attendance Policy
You must complete all homework set and attend class for at least 85% of the time so that you can progress and sit exams. If you are ill or unable to attend, please contact our Absence Line 01634 338416 so that we can let your tutor know, and so they can send you any work you may have missed. Please do not book a holiday during term time.

How are digital skills used and enhanced on this course
You may have the opportunity to use computers with internet access in class time. You may need to use the internet for some of your course - using a mobile phone, tablet or computer. The tutor will speak to you about useful websites, apps and online resources which you may be asked to use for homework.

We try to make sure your class is as safe as possible. If you are worried about anything, please talk to your tutor or our Safeguarding Officer.

E-Learning Etiquette
If your class needs to go online due to bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, please make sure you and everyone at home are fully dressed when you are joining classes, and that no personal information (address, bank details) can be seen.
