What Will I Learn On This Course?
By the end of the course, learners will: 1. Apply at least three drawing techniques to develop foundational drawing skills. 2. Use a minimum of two painting techniques to explore colour palettes and create original compositions. 3. Enhance research skills by studying the work and techniques of at least two artists. Whether you would like to learn new creative skills or to investigate the possibility of a new art-based career, MAE Community Learning courses can provide you with a stepping stone to progress

Is This Course Suitable For Me?
This course is suitable for those who have attended previously or who have experience in drawing or other art courses who wish to further develop their skills. Learners are expected to maintain a sketchbook to record ideas and inspirations, alongside building a portfolio of work produced during the course.

Is There Anything Else I Need To Know About This Course?
Please be aware that whilst this course is practical in nature some sessions will include theory and professional related training such as H&S, risk assessments, public liability etc Learners will need the following tools and equipment for the first session - please do not purchase until you are sure the course will run: • A4 or A3 sketchbook or cartridge paper to draw on • HB/2B pencil and sharpener • A kneaded putty eraser / eraser Assessment will be an ongoing part of your learning, beginning with an initial review to guide your learning path and continuing throughout the course to support your progress toward personal goals and achievement.

Will There Be Additional Costs?
Learners are expected to provide their own materials for most activities; however, easels and drawing boards will be available for use. A list of required materials will be shared at relevant points during the course. Please speak with the tutor before making significant purchases.

What Could I Go On To Do After This Course?
This is a drawing and painting course level 1C, upon completing this course, learners can progress onto Level 2A, 2B or 2C Painting and Drawing class but cannot redo this course at the same level or book onto lower-level courses (such as Drawing & Painting 1A or 1B). Learners can book onto any other Art specialism or Creative & Culture courses from 1A upwards. The next step up would be the R251059A Drawing and Painting - Level 2A or you may want to explore an accredited course such as our BTEC Level 2 in Art & Design Skills. Medway Adult Education works with many partners locally such as MidKent College, Medway School of Arts and the University of Kent; information about their courses can be found in our studios, café and on Moodle.
