Description
Join our expert tutor to learn the heritage craft of metal smithing and jewellery making. This course caters to both beginners and experienced learners, providing step-by-step guidance on a set project. The project will be suitable for complete beginners while also providing the opportunity for the more experienced to extend their skills.
Learners will have the chance to personalise their creations, making unique jewellery for themselves or loved ones, all under the supervision of a heritage craft expert. Additionally, learners will adhere to essential health and safety procedures within the studio to ensure a safe crafting environment.
What Will I Learn On This Course?
Learners will:
1. Learn how to solder on at least one piece or improve solder technique on at least one piece.
2. Learn how to cut, file and form metal for at least one item or improve on the file and form of metal for at least one item.
3. Experiment with design, translating drawings and plans to at least one piece of jewellery

Is There Anything Else I Need To Know About This Course?
Please be aware that whilst this course is practical in nature some sessions will include theory and professional related training such as H&S, risk assessments, public liability etc
Learners will need the following tools and equipment please do not purchase until you are sure the course will run:
For your first class you will need to bring:
· a pen and notepad
· A fine tipped permanent black marker
· Safety glasses
· Safety Disposable Face Mask for General Purpose Protection, FFP2, Valved
· Apron
Your tutor will advise on tools for further classes – please do not purchase until speaking with the tutor.
· Basic tool kit to include:
Saw frame and spare blades
Flat nose pliers
Chain pliers
1 oz Jobbing hammer
3 X needle files
Metal ruler
Emery sticks
Carbide scriber

Will There Be Additional Costs?
The tutor will advise you on materials required for the course on the first lesson. Precious metals, solder, and saw blades will need to be purchased from Cooksongold. Also see above for details on tools.
During the course there will be additional costs depending on what projects you have undertaken and the costs of these materials can be discussed with the tutor
You will need to purchase and bring a 3M mask such as (3M 8822 FFP2 Cup Shaped Particulate Respirator) to every class

What Is The Attendance Policy?
Multiple sessions-
To get the most out of your course you will need to attend as many sessions as possible. We recommend at least 90%. If you do have a holiday booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes. If you are unavoidably ill or unable to attend, please contact 01634 338400 so that we can let your tutor know, and so they can send you any work you may have missed
