Course Information Sheet

Description

Have you always wanted to make your own clothes but don't now where to start? Is it difficult to find clothes that fit? Have you started a project and hit a problem? Or would you just like a lovely day to yourself, using the fabulous facilities in our fully equipped sewing studio and meeting like-minded people?
Join us for this one-day workshop where you can bring along a project and receive help and guidance from the tutor with tips of the trade to achieve a better fit and more professional finish.
You'll be well under way by the end of the day and more confident to finish your project at home.
We will cover: Using, altering and laying out the pattern, proper cutting techniques, reading and understanding your instructions, making a toile, cutting your fabric and of course construction techniques for making and finishing garments to a professional standard.
You will need to attend with a project for the day which could be a pattern and some fabric or something you are already working on.
An excellent idea is to bring a clean, FRESHLY WASHED duvet cover or large sheet (that you are happy to cut up) as this can be used to test your pattern before cutting your fabric.
Please also bring your normal sewing kit along too. We have sewing machines, overlockers, cover-stitch machines and a large cutting table.

Please note, the most common error is buying a pattern that is too complicated or is incorrectly sized for you. Please measure yourself and check the size guide for the pattern you are interested in. Very often (but not always!!) we need a pattern which is a few sizes larger than we currently wear. (Modern patterns are a little better). Multi-sized patterns are helpful here but still make sure you buy the correct size grouping. Note: If your pattern is the type needs to be traced off (common in ‘free' patterns) then this will need to be done first

This is a non-funded course and as such concessionary rates do not apply.
